Ailing filmmaker Leonard Fife (Richard Gere), passionate but feeling his age and illness, wants to tell his life story, unfiltered, before it’s too late. As an acclaimed documentary filmmaker, he has much to be proud of, but his avoidance of the Vietnam War draft and his past relationships contain a thorny truth. Finally determined to uncover the truth and lies in his life and career, Leonard sits down for a lengthy taped interview with his former student Malcolm (Michael Imperioli) and tells candid stories about his youth (Jacob Elordi) in the Roaring Twenties and later. At Leonard’s insistence, his wife and irreplaceable partner Emma (Uma Thurman) listens to it all. Leonard’s accomplishments are pitted against his failures—fibrin versus fact—and when the man is completely stripped of the myth, Leonard must confront what remains.
