When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they convinced Harrison Ford to come on the show, Segel said that Goldstein initially wanted « a Harrison Ford type » and that he would audition people who were similar to Ford.

Segel told Goldstein that they should first pitch it to Ford, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was involved, sparking interest from other big-name actors. It’s pure entertainment
Short, great jokes, enough pathos to keep it from becoming a middle-class Big Bang Theory, a joy to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t act like that, but anyone with a functioning brain cell would know that, so criticizing it from that perspective is just negativity for the sake of lowering ratings. Are some of the characters stereotypes?
A true revelation, the series is worth watching just for that
Yes, but no offense and it shouldn’t be assumed, FYI, I worked with a gay guy who was exactly the stereotype shown here. The real success here is mixing the seriousness of therapy and grief with the growing pains of life at different ages, stages, and lifestyles and making it hilarious as hell. Finally, who would have thought what a good light comedy actor Harrison Ford is?
